The following domain extensions are reserved for official government institutions and approved organizations within Nigeria. Registration is subject to verification and eligibility approval.

.gov.ng

Federal Government Ministries, Departments, Agencies, State Governments, and Local Government Councils.

.edu.ng

Accredited Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, and Higher Education Institutions.

.sch.ng

Government-approved Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, and Educational Institutions.

.mil.ng

Official Nigerian Armed Forces, Defence Organizations, and Military Institutions.

Reserved exclusively for the thirty-six State Governments of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Requirements for

Registration

To ensure a smooth and timely verification process, applicants are required to provide the following documentation before the registration request can be processed.

Official Application Letter

A formal request printed on the organization’s official letterhead and signed by an authorized government representative.

Proof of Government Status

Official documentation confirming that the applicant is a recognized government ministry, department, agency, educational institution, military organization, or state government office.

Administrative Contact

Provide the name, designation, official email address, and telephone number of the administrative contact responsible for the domain.

Technical Contact

Provide technical contact details, including the system administrator or IT department responsible for domain management.

Nameservers

Submit at least two authoritative nameservers where the domain will be hosted after registration.

Supporting Documents

Any additional verification documents requested during the review process must also be submitted.

How It Works

GiddyHost sends the letter to NIRA for verification and approval. NiRA sends to NITDA for verification by confirming the authenticity of the letter through a standard verification process and approves the requested domain name strictly in line with the .GOV.NG& .MIL.NG Domain Name Policy
If the application successfully passes through the verification and approval process, NITDA sends an approval confirmation to the GiddyHost through NiRA. Else, NITDA advises the registrar and registrant on the appropriate next step.
The registrar creates the domain and NiRA activates.
Check Eligibility

Submit the Form for Check Eligibility

Upload the Certificate of Incorporation and Letter of Authorisation (note) from the top manager or director, using the company/institution letterhead and duly signed by the highest-ranking director(s).
The letter should include the following additional information:
  • At least two name servers;
  • Two contact details for administrative and technical personnel;
  • The administrative contact must be a staff member of the institution/MDA. The technical contact can be either a staff member or a consultant to the institution/MDA if a technical staff member is unavailable; and - For each contact, specify the Name, Designation, reachable Phone number, and Email Address.
